Training will be split between the OMM training offices in Bristol and external training institutions around the UK, (with preference given to the South West where possible). The focus of the course will be on renewable energy, oil, gas, and telecommunications industries.
The course comprises of six academic blocks, run over a period eleven months, throughout which they spend two weeks in the classroom, four weeks on placement offshore, followed by two weeks rest.
Upon graduation, they will have acquired the necessary recognised qualifications and training to enable them to choosetheir point of entry into the offshore sector with a valuable confidence of knowledge.
OMM Academy aims to provide a quality of training recognised as a benchmark standard and quality assurance throughout the sector.
Throughout the programme, trainees are continuously assessed and advised by the Academy and member institutions to optimise their employment potential. In the same way, the course content will be regularly analysed by the board and its members to ensure that the progression of the curriculum and the development of the offshore sector are kept at a parallel.
Over the year, trainees will be exposed to the majority of offshore industries. These include offshore wind energy, wave and tidal energy, telecommunications, oil and gas, survey and commercial diving. As projects develop offshore, the Academy aims to educate its trainees by means of field trips to these sites either mid or post construction.
The programme is extensive and highly demanding of its trainees, requiring long periods away from home in often rough and potentially dangerous conditions offshore. The lifestyle is not for everyone, but for those who embrace the challenge, the rewards can be very appealing.
