Work Placements

For a period of four weeks each ‘block’, trainees will be sent on offshore work placements with the objective of getting first hand experience and working offshore for long periods of time.

The type of vessels and projects worked on will reflect the recent academic training received. Trainees can put into practice what they have learnt in the classroom, contributing effectively and benefitting from a long-term understanding of professional skills.

The exact placement type will be determined by which operators are offshore at the time, although the trainees will generally be placed on the following vessel types: Crew Vessel, Anchor Handlers, Cable Support, Cable Installation and Diving Vessels.

Field Trips

Throughout the course, trainees aresent on field trips to broaden their understanding of the industry. They have the opportunity of seeing complete installations at first hand, meeting key industry players, and achieving a better grounding of knowledge.

At present, these trips include Hayle Wave Hub (Cornwall), Scroby Sands Offshore Wind Farm, the European Marine Energy Centre (Orkney), and a tour of the Cable Installation Vessel CS Sovereign.
